How has global economic growth held up so well to repeated shocks?
The IMF highlights surprisingly resilient global growth despite geopolitical tensions, supported by lower dependence on fossil fuels, highly active fiscal policies and the rise of AI. Technology investment, particularly in digital infrastructure, is providing strong support to economic activity and benefiting countries integrated into AI value chains, such as South Korea and Taiwan.
Risks remain: economic fragmentation, fiscal vulnerabilities and climate-related food inflation, while the future impact of AI remains uncertain, though it could provide a lasting boost to productivity.
